Boakye wanted to revive his career in the Ghana league after failed stints outside the country since 2013.
He signed for Libyan outfit Ahli Tripoli last two seasons, but had to terminate his contract due to the political instability in the North African country.
Due to a reoccurring injury, he was forced to terminate his contract with Egyptian side Misr El Makasa late last year.
He had a trial at South African Premier League side Ajax Cape Town last April, but could not reach a deal with the club due to his fitness level.
